Missouri Pilots Association
Our November gathering was very well attended by members of Gateway and St. Louis chapters to hear our state president, Larry Harmon, talk about MPA's vital role in general aviation. In addition to his goals for MPA, Larry told about the difference our organization has made with local leaders decisions at several airports. As one of the largest aviation organizations in the state, MPA's advice is being sought more often for matters concerning airports. Another of Larry's goals is to become more proactive regarding new tall towers being proposed throughout the state. This shows why your membership and support do make a difference when it comes to promoting general aviation. If you have a chance to talk to Larry in person, you will find out how active he is in promoting G.A. Thank you, Larry, for coming and stop in any time you are on this side of the state!
Our Christmas party will be very near by the time you read this. Del Loveall has arranged for a barber shop quartet to be featured along with a "Chinese gift exchange" (otherwise known as "rob your neighbor") and home made cookies and other desserts. Come and bring your friends!
The gift exchange involves bringing a wrapped gift of around ten dollars in value if you wish to participate. Be sure to get a number at the door if you bring a gift. Dr. Sills will also be on hand with the video tape of his and Bette's flight with White Scarf Airways in the modified three-seat Stearman.
As many of you know by now, member Doug Allen's sister and stepmother perished in the EgyptAir disaster. We are saddened by his family's loss and express our condolences to him and his family. A contribution to the MPA Educational Endowment Fund was made by the chapter in their name.
V.P. and fly-out chairman, Brian Brinker, has been busy lately! In addition to the Air Force Museum trip in October, he headed up a very successful outing to Decatur, IL, on November 7. I hope you saw the pictures at out meeting of the six planes and seventeen people attending. Two young men even got their first airplane ride! (Be sure to pick up some FIRST FLIGHT cards at the meetings).
With the iffy weather in December, our chapter outing will be a fly-in / drive-in breakfast at J.B.'s Diner on Smartt Field Sunday, Dec. 5, around 10 a.m.
Because of some donations made to our chapter, we are planning a silent auction at one of the meetings next year and could use additional donations. If you have something to contribute, please call me at (314) 731-0199 or see me at the meeting. The item doesn't necessarily have to be aviation oriented. The proceeds will go to the treasury to help fund speakers, postage, picnic and other chapter activities.
To make reservations for our December 8, meeting and Christmas party at THE COLUMNS, please call Jean Murry at (314) 469-3541 by Monday evening, Dec. 6. Bring your friends and cookies! The doors open at 6:30, meal at 7:00 and program at 8:15. The menu will include: tossed salad, clam chowder, prime rib, baked red snapper, baked potato, green beans almondine, rolls and home made desserts! If you have special dietary requirements, let Jean or myself know by the above deadline and I will pass it along to THE COLUMNS staff.
