What a month! The 2004 convention at Lake of the Ozarks was a success and so was the Gateway June Picnic! I wish Lana and I could have attended both, but my mother’s passing prevented us from attending both events. Gateway Chapter is a good organization because Bob Kraemer, our new president, took over for me while I was out of town and now our newsletter editor, Libby, is out of town due to her mother’s serious illness and I am temporarily resuming an old position.
Our secretary, Jean Murry, received a much deserved accolade when she was awarded the “Aviation Award” at the state MPA Convention. The Aviation Award is given to a Missourian who has done the most to promote aviation within the state. Jean is an active member of Gateway MPA, St. Louis Aviation Museum and the Ninety Nines, to mention a few. Jean has done an enormous amount of work behind the scenes for many groups. Well done, Jean!
Speaking of the picnic, I understand that Jan Pocock had a great Waldorf salad and Steve Pierce’s wife made another super airplane cake. Didn’t anyone save me a piece? Thank you to Gen and Rick Albrecht for their super music at the picnic under questionable weather conditions. Thanks guys! They and their easy listening music are available for private parties and church events at reasonable rates. Call them at 636-441-3230.
We were able to squeeze in the Decatur fly-out on June 20. There were four planes and nine members and guests on a beautiful flying day. The next chapter fly-out will be to Grand Glaize (K15) on July 18. Please join us.
We have several new members in the Gateway chapter and we invite them to come to the July meeting and introduce themselves. We have a very friendly group and would love to meet you.
Please come to the July 14, Gateway meeting at The Columns in St. Charles. Our speaker, Susan Foy, Major, USAF, of the Air Mobility Command at Scott Air Force Base, will speak on her experiences as an Air Force pilot and the USAF BASH (Birdstrike/Wildlife Aircraft Strike Hazard) Team. The dinner buffet will include tossed salad, chicken rice soup, mango glazed chicken, BBQ beef brisket, au gratin potatoes, buttered corn, rolls and strawberry shortcake for dessert. Dinner is still just $13/person. Doors open at 6 pm, serving begins at 6:30 pm and the meeting and program get underway at 7:30 pm. Phone your dinner reservations to Jean Murry at 314-469-3541 by Monday evening, July 12. Please join us and remember to bring a friend. Everyone who brings a guest to the meeting gets a free 50/50 ticket.
