November 2004

November Gateway meeting:  Wednesday, November 10, at the Columns in St. Charles.  Mary Jean Russell, the Development Director of Wings of Hope will speak on the organization’s plans, programs, and needs.  We invite all MPA members and their guests to join us!  Dinner will be Tossed salad, cream of chicken with wild rice soup, carved ham, sliced turkey and dressing, candied yams, buttered broccoli, rolls and butter, and pumpkin pie  for dessert.  Dinner is still just $13/person.  Doors open at 6 pm, serving begins at 6:30 pm and the program gets underway at 7:30 pm with a short business meeting to follow.  Phone your dinner reservations to Jean Murry at 314-469-3541 by Monday evening, November 8.   Please join us and remember to bring a friend and get a free 50/50 ticket.

Thirty members and guests heard Lt. Col. Gilbert Hostler, USAF Ret., speak on his flying exploits during his military career (his first flight was as a member of the cavalry when he was thrown by his horse) and his participation in the atomic bomb testing at the Eniwetok and Bikini atolls.  Of the many aircraft he flew in his long military career, his favorite was the C-54 (sorry, Bob, maybe his second favorite aircraft was the Stearman).   We were pleased to have the company of our well-traveled members, Tom and Louise Butler, who brought pictures of their western travels.

Mark your calendars for our Christmas party on Wednesday, December 8, at the Columns.  Jim Hostler will head up the entertainment (more particulars in the next newsletter), and there will be a $10 “rob-thy-neighbor” gift exchange.  We’re looking for someone to be Santa – any volunteers????

Eight members and guests in three aircraft attended the October fly-out to Kentucky Dam State Park (M34).  The next fly-out is scheduled for Sunday, November 21, to Lambert’s Restaurant (home of the throwed rolls) in Sikeston, MO (SIK).  The food is excellent and the ambiance is pure fun – so please plan to join us.  The next state board meeting is at 1 pm on Sunday, November 14, at the Columbia airport.  Everyone is invited.
