It must have been Halloween! We had tricks with the ceiling VCR projector and we had candy treats and decorations thanks to Tom and Louise Butler and Lana Maggart. Our speaker for the evening was Doug Clements, from Wing of Hope. That group of volunteers has done an amazing amount of work for depressed areas abroad and in this country. Doug mentioned that in nearly thirty-seven years they have placed around 117 airplanes into the hands of humanitarian services. That is just over three aircraft per year! The aircraft are donated and reworked for the particular application or repaired, sold and the money used towards purchasing a suitable bush plane. Doug mentioned that C 182's are in particular demand. Wings of Hope is a 501(c)3 charitable organization and would love to hear from you if you have time, skills, money or an airplane to donate. You can call Doug at (314) 537-1302. Thank you, Doug, for an informative evening.

We were all saddened to learn of Glen Vandelicht's death. Glen was a past president of the St. Louis chapter and a past state MPA president and was still very active in the MPA. Our condolences to his family. A motion was passed for Gateway Chapter to contribute to the MPA Educational Endowment Fund in his honor.

The October chapter fly-out was a visit to the Air Force Museum at Wright-Patterson AFB. The airport of choice was Moraine (I73), south of Dayton, where they rented cars for the remainder of the visit. Brian's brave band of seven aviators in three planes left on Friday, Oct. 22, despite windy conditions (gusting up to fifty at times in Ohio!), they had a good flight to the east (hope that was a tailwind!) and the conditions returning on Sunday were classic CAVU. We are glad everyone had a good time and a safe trip.

Although not an official chapter fly-out, six of us in three planes had a somewhat shorter (and cheaper) trip to Grand Glaize (K15) on Sunday. The weather was absolutely perfect; it seemed like you could see the entire southern half of Missouri. For those of you that haven't been there for some time (like me) there is a nice restaurant two blocks west of the field and across the street. Wish I could remember its name, but it is just the right distance to walk off lunch before flying back; however a nice courtesy car is available at the FBO.

The next chapter fly-out will be to Decatur, IL on November 7, (with a rain date of the 14th). This will be an excellent trip for renters and low-time pilots due to the distance, level terrain, good VOR locations and the nice, towered airport facility in Decatur. They also have a restaurant located on the field. It isn't necessary for everyone to leave from the same airport together. The general idea is to arrive at the destination around the same time and while enroute, if you wish, you can listen in and keep up with everyone's location. If you plan to go, please contact Brian Brinker at (314) 647-1138 for further details or to fill an empty seat. Since the December weather can be uncertain, our fly-out / drive-out that month will be to JB's Diner at Smartt Field for breakfast at 10:00 a.m.

Remember those delicious cookies in past years' Christmas parties? Let's do it again! Traditionally the officer and board wives have brought cookies and other goodies. This year any and all members are invited to bring and to share a batch of your favorite holiday desserts with the chapter.

Our November 10, meeting at THE COLUMNS will feature our MPA State President, Larry Harmon! As I have said, Larry is a very informed speaker and has several ideas on promoting aviation and safety in Missouri. This is a good opportunity for you to get to know our state leader up close and personal. His goals were outlined in our July 1999 MPA NEWS, and remind us that our large state organization can be very effective in influencing our local and state representatives when we speak with one voice. To do this, we need your help, so please come and bring your friends. The doors open at 6:30, dinner at 7:00 and program at 8:15. For you dining pleasure we will have a Thanksgiving feast of: tossed salad, vegetable soup, turkey and dressing, broiled scrod w/lemon sauce, sweet potatoes, buttered zucchini & winter squash, hot rolls and pumpkin pie.

Please call Jean Murry for reservations at (314) 469-3541 by Monday evening, November 8, and invite your friends!
