The regular meeting of the Heartland Chapter of the Missouri Pilots Association was held November 7, at Shoney's Restaurant in Rolla, MO. 26 members and guests attended.
The chapter observed a moment of silence for Mel and Randy Carnahan, and Chris Sifford, who were killed in a plane crash in October. Mel was governor of Missouri and a candidate for the U.S. Senate. Randy was an active member, and former president, of the Heartland Chapter. The chapter donated $100 to the Children's Trust Fund and $100 to the children's mission, the designated charities by the Carnahan Family. Chapter members donated $75 at the meeting for the effort.
Congratulations to new pilot Tim Long. Tim is also the owner of a very clean Cessna 150.
The chapter discussed a flyout on November 18 to the open house at the St. Louis FSS.
The chapter Christmas Party will be December 9, 2000 at the University Center on the campus of the University of Missouri-Rolla. Invitations will be sent to chapter members soon. RSVP's are requested. There will be music, fun, and Santa will make an appearance and there will be a gift exchange. People need to bring a $5 to $10 gift to share.
The Christmas Party will take place of the December meeting. The January meeting will return to Shoney's in Rolla on January 2, 2001.
Chapter president Fred Goodwin presented the program. A retired engineer, who served in several positions at Hamiton Standard/United Technologies, presented a very interesting program on the Extravehicular Mobility Unit (the space suit) and the International Space Station. Fred spent the better part of his career working on space related projects.
Safe flying.
