Heartland Chapter - Meeting Minutes

By: Mark Potrafka

The October meeting of the Heartland Chapter of the Missouri Pilots Association was held Tuesday, October 2 at Shoney's Restaurant in Rolla. 41 members and guests attended.

Several members participated in the statewide poker run on September 22. It was a beautiful day for a poker run and it was great to get back in the air for some VFR flying.

An officer from the Missouri State Patrol spoke about low flying and encouraged pilots to contact law enforcement authorities if unusual situations arise. He stated that with the events of September 11, people are concerned about the actions of all aircraft. It is important to observe the FARs and be a safe pilot. In addition, contact information for our representatives and senators in Washington was distributed as we are still trying to get VFR flight in and out of enhanced class B airspace. We need to help our friends under the Kansas City and St. Louis veils.

Mike Ramirez, former FBI agent presented the program for the evening. He spoke about his experiences as an undercover agent in various parts of the country. He also related some of his thoughts about terrorism and what can happen in our country.

The chapter determined that the annual holiday celebration will take place in early January. More details later.

The November meeting will be Tuesday, November 6 at Shoney's in Rolla. Dave Bradley, CFI, will present the program.

Safe flying.
