                    Penrod Turk, Temporary Editor,

It is with heavy heart that I tell you of the passing of long time KC Chapter member and Past President, Eugene F. Wakefield on Saturday, Nov 24, 2007. Gene was born August 19, 1925 in Caney, KS to Albert and Mary Wakefield. He served in the Army overseas, in Europe during WWII and lived in the KC area for 61 years. He worked 40+ years as a Temperature Controls Specialist and Salesman. Gene loved to fly and was a member of the MPA and Kansas City Chapter President and Treasurer. The Funeral was Thurs, Nov 29th and he was buried next to his beloved Mary in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens. Fond memories and condolences for the family may be left at:

As another year draws to a close, we pause to remember those whose friendship and good will mean so much to us. May the Joy and Peace of the Holiday be with you today and throughout the New Year. **** There will be NO dinner meeting in December or January - instead - join in the fun for "Crabby Night" on Thursday, January 10th, 2008 at the Jumpin Catfish Restaurant. **** On Nov 26th Sen Trent Lott, the ranking member of the Senate Aviation Subcommittee, announced his retirement. It is still unclear what this will mean for the "user fee" fight as S.1300 is still stalled in the Senate. AOPA does not expect the Senate to taken any action before the end of the year and not until the Republican leadership can appoint a new ranking member to replace Lott on the Aviation Subcommittee. **** A personal note of thanks to our November guest speaker, Randy Witt, for his hands on presentation of X-Plane. **** In case you were not aware - the FAA had originally proposed to remove 254 approaches to cut costs and prepare for a future of satellite-based navigation. AOPA immediately conducted a detailed analysis and asked for member feedback which resulted in the identification of 83 critical approaches. The FAA received some 371 comments and decided to keep all but four of the 83 approaches. The four approaches scheduled for cancellation on AOPA's original wish list and submitted on behalf of members are: VOR/DME Runway 34 at Hays Regional, Hays, KS; NDB-A at Cuba Municipal, Cuba, MO; VOR/DME Runway 8 at Searle Field, Ogallala, NE; and one in Atwater, CA. **** Remember - those who hoot with the owls by night, should not fly with the eagles by day. **** Check NOTAMS etc, etc, etc . . . . ****
There will be NO dinner meeting in December - instead join in the fun for "Crabby Night" at the Jumpin Catfish Restaurant on Thursday, January 10th, 2008 - everyone is welcome to attend. .***** Gary Fox

PROGRAM SUMMARY:  Randy Witt, from X-Plane presented an interactive demonstration of present version 8 of X-Pane aircraft simulation software and the Beta version 9.
