                    Penrod Turk, Temporary Editor,

It is with deep regret that I inform you of the passing of Bonnie L. Donovan. Bonnie was born in Oklahoma in 1923 and received her RN in 1944. After moving to Kansas City she married Warren Donovan in 1956 and spent the rest of her life in the KC area. Nursing was her career and she worked as a surgical nurse, office nurse, industrial nurse and was Chief Nurse for TWA for the fourteen years prior to retiring in 1983. She enjoyed flying with Warren and traveling extensively. You hopefully remember being greeted by Bonnie and Warren whenever the chapter had picnic's at Rainbow Air Village. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Garden Valley Manor, St. Therese Catholic Church or the American Parkinson's Foundation and condolences can be mailed to Warren at 6118 NW 79th, Kansas City, MO 64151.

A very Happy New Year to everyone and may good health and prosperity be with you today and throughout the year. "Crabby Night" was an overwhelming success - the food was outstanding. Comments included "the best crab legs I've ever had". The weather was a little iffy so a few were kept away and regrets to Lyle who wandered around Lee's Summit to no avail - hope you, at least, got a PBJ when you got back home. **** While it was encouraging to hear US Sen. Bill Nelson (D-Fla.) say that, in his opinion, "user fees are dead" - we all know that when it comes to politics it's not over until the final vote. Phil Boyer reminds us that "The airlines haven't given up on user fees and more taxes on general aviation ." The Senate is scheduled to return to work Jan 22nd, and meanwhile, congress extended the previous FAA budget and aviation excise tax to pay for it until Feb 29th. **** In Missouri there still seems to be some questions regarding HB 1270 which "requires that all gasoline sold as of January 1, 2008, in Missouri be fuel ethanol-blended gasoline". "Any exemptions made by the EPA as well as bulk transfers between terminals are exempt from the provisions in the act and certain gasoline types are exempted from the requirement including aviation fuel and automotive fuel used in aircraft, premium gasoline, and E75 and E85 gasoline". Many thanks to Bob Dickens and state board members who lobbied relentlessly in Jeff City to keep that exemption. **** Speaking of politics - the 2nd Annual Missouri Aviation Day will be Wed, Feb 20th in Jeff City. Please check your monthly state newsletter for details. **** Mark you calendars now to attend the February 27th meeting at the DAV featuring "Staying ahead of the airplane". **** Takeoff's are optional - landings are mandatory - so try to keep the number of landings equal to the number of takeoffs.***** Gary Fox

JANUARY HOLIDAY DINNER - Our holiday dinner at the 'Jumpin Catfish' was a great way to end the festivities of the season. While most enjoyed the Alaskan Snow Crab legs, others ordered their favorite from the menu. Whatever you wanted, seafood, chicken or wild game, it was there for your enjoyment. Of course the main thing was the camaraderie of fellow pilots telling their "War" stories. We are looking forward to next year.
A BIG thanks to Terrie Jo for the many hours spent arranging this GREAT party.

PROGRAM FOR FEBRUARY 27 - Our February 27, 2008 meeting is "Staying ahead of the airplane". From day one of flight training, pilots are told to stay ahead of the airplane. In this thought provoking new program, Richard L. Collins from Flying magazine, examines situations where pilots are most likely to "get behind" the airplane, triggering a chain of events that could lead to an accident or incident.

DINNER RESERVATION INFORMATION -Our next regular meeting will begin with social time at 6:00, dinner at 6:30 sharp on Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at the Disabled American Veterans, 8787 Old Santa Fe Road, KCMO.
