PRESIDENTS MESSAGE - Great weather for flying, but the plane has been snowed in - so, hopefully the forecasters are right for this weekend. The US Sport Aviation Expo will be in Sebring, Florida next week, and Tom and June Redenbaugh are on their way to attend and visit friends. It has been rumored that Piper Aircraft is looking at Czech Sport Aviation with plans to adapt their SportCruiser for the American LSA market. If it is true, we might hear more when Tom and June return. *** As 2010 begins, we express our gratitude to the KC Chapter Officers and Board Members for their commitment and dedication - without them we would have no chapter. Time is our greatest commodity, and these individuals have given it freely. Even though it has been a pleasure serving as your President again and still - I am happy to report that through the efforts of your nominating committee, Penrod, Jeanné and Frank, we have a NEW slate of officers for your consideration and vote during the March meeting. Of course, nominations will be accepted from the floor. Please consider being on the board or just attending a board meeting. Gary Fox. (Editor's note: Gary, we appreciate your leadership and all the time and effort you and Terrie Jo have expended keeping our chapter going. Many thanks, and we hope you will enjoy a well-deserved rest.)

NEW OFFICERS AND BOARD - As mentioned above, our elections will be held at the March meeting, Installation will be in April. The new board will take over in May. The Nominating Committee has recommended the following members for your consideration: President, Mitch Stafford; Vice-President, Tom Eagle; Secretary, Open; Treasurer, Terrie Jo Fox; Al St. Germain, Publisher of The Flyer. Board Members: Penrod Turk, Ralph Schmude; Jeanné Willerth, Frank Taylor, Al St. Germain and all past presidents. Nominations from the floor will be accepted. The nominations for Secretary and one director are open, so the slot is open for a volunteer or suggested person. Editor

DECEMBER CRABBY NIGHT - We had a very enjoyable get-together at Jumpin' Catfish for our third annual evening there to celebrate Hanukkah and Christmas. As usual, Terrie Jo did a great job making all the arrangements and taking reservations. Many ordered off the menu, but a few of us die-hards persevered until closing to get that delicious, elusive crab out of the shells. The food and service was great as was the price, but the company was outstanding! Chances are the same venue will be a possibility next year. Editor.

GREAT PILOT TOOLS -
We have become aware of two websites that are great tools and fun that every pilot should check out are:www.FltPlan.com and www.Fly2Lunch.com.
(Editor's note: Many thanks to Mitch Stafford for this.)

Flight Plan is a great website with all of the information you would ever need in planning any length of trip (weather, sectional charts, winds aloft, fuel prices, approach plates and many more useful tools.) It is a free site that once you start using you'll use it for everything.

Fly2Lunch is a great website where you can find restaurants at airports around the country. You simply enter the three letter identifier of an airport and set a max distance away from that airport, and it will list all of the airports within that have restaurants. You can even break it down to on field, a short walk from the airport, and a short drive from the airport.

MPA CHAPTER BOARD MEETINGS - All chapter members are invited to attend board meetings.  They are normally held on the first Tuesday of the month, excluding holidays, at Executive Beechcraft, Downtown Airport, at 7 PM.  We always welcome your advice and assistance, and the coffee pot is on!

MPA STATE BOARD MEETINGS - Any MPA members may, and are invited and encouraged to, attend the state board meetings. Check the MPA News for meeting dates, times and locations. Gary Fox
