Very Important! See changes in meeting date and place for July!!
PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE - Our Kansas City Chapter is hitting the web. One of the best ways we can promote our chapter, and be seen by more and more people is by putting ourselves on the internet. The first thing we are trying is a youtube channel where we can put slideshows of pictures from events that we go to or host. Any time you go to a flyout, local event or even a chapter meeting it is an opportunity to take pictures and tell a story. So far, I've loaded three different slideshows of a flyout and a trip I took last fall. If anyone has any pictures I will be happy to make them into a slideshow and put them on our site. They must be in digital form though to be made into a slideshow. Hopefully we can add many slideshows, and show other pilots what a great group we have. Feel free to check out our channel on youtube. The web address is: www.youtube.com/mpakansascity1. Our speaker for July will be Ron Stafford. He will be informing us about the future of general aviation and many of the challenges we are likely to see in the coming years. I look forward to seeing you all at our next meeting which will be at Hy-Vee at 40 Highway and Noland Road on the Second Wednesday, July 14th at 6 PM. Mitch Stafford.
SPEAKER SUMMARY - Joe Pestka, MoDOT's Director of Aviation, was our guest speaker for our June meeting. He talked to us about the state of aviation in Missouri covering legislation, State Aviation Day, funding, project updates and obstacles in the future. On the legislative front, Senate Bill 1000 was a large threat for aviation. It would have taken $2,314,363 from the State Aviation Fund. Luckily the bill never made it out of hearing. Expenditures from funding have been rising since 2004, and 2010 has been our best year. We will probably see these figures drop down a little in the next few years. Seventy GA airports throughout the state participate in Federal NPE programs, and each of these airports can receive up to $100,000 per year for improvements. Lee's Summit Airport is currently undergoing a $40 Million project. The east apron has been completed, the runway will be lengthened to 5,500 feet and the west taxiway will have to be pushed to a distance of 400 feet to meet the standards of the class airport LXT will be after the runway lengthening is complete. Most likely the first row of T-Hangars will have to be taken out, and the terminal building will be moved to the new east apron. Thanks for the update on what's happening in our great state, Joe! Mitch Stafford

WEBSITES - Two websites that are great tools and fun that every pilot should check out are:
www.FltPlan.com and www.Fly2Lunch.com. (Editor's note: Many thanks to Mitch Stafford for this.)
Flight Plan is a great website with all of the information you would ever need in planning any length of trip (weather, sectional charts, winds aloft, fuel prices, approach plates and many more useful tools.) It is a free site that once you start using you'll use it for everything.
Fly2Lunch is a great website where you can find restaurants at airports around the country. You simply enter the three letter identifier of an airport and set a max distance away from that airport, and it will list all of the airports within that have restaurants. You can even break it down to on field, a short walk from the airport, and a short drive from the airport.
