PRESIDENTS MESSAGE - Here it is June but Mother Nature is still giving us more rain than we need. A picnic is scheduled at Sky Harbor, Warrensburg, MO (9K4) Saturday June 21st meet at 1100 and eat at 1200. Doc Chris Bailey (a chapter member) is providing the location and the propane grills. The chapter is providing hamburgers, hot dogs, buns, condiments, soft drinks, paper plates, napkins, chips and utensils. Please bring a side dish or desert. Doc Bailey will have some light sport aircraft for us to touch, lick, and maybe fly. I hope that a lot of you will come to the picnic. See you there.**** Terrie and I were the only KC members at the state convention May 17th at Branson. We flew my tripacer and landed at Point Lookout airport. The ends of the runway drop straight off about 30 or 40 feet. The Saturday meeting was normal. Everyone missed the rest of the chapter members that normally attend. I won 25 gallons of avfuel in a drawing. The Tri-Pacer would only hold 16.2 gallons. Les Featherston volunteered to take the remaining 8.8 gallons. I agreed. The flight back to LXT took longer as we had a 22 knot headwind.****Aviation is not so much of a profession as it is a disease. **** Gary Fox

PROGRAM FOR May 28th: John Ohrazda, Manager of the Lee's Summit Airport updated us on capital projects at LXT. The east terminal improvements will begin in early June 2008 and will consist of the development of a new parallel taxiway on the east side of the Airport, as well as wildlife fencing and the removal of obstructions in the runway protection area. This project is expected to be completed in six months and John stressed that pilots check for NOTAMS daily during this time. He also asked that we pay particular attention to safety as there will be numerous construction vehicles on the airport property marked with orange and white checkered flags. Workers do carry radios and are required to monitor Unicom but you are the "pilot in charge". There will also be yellow "X's" clearly marking closed taxiways and runways for short times during this process. Many thanks to John as it's always a pleasure to have him grace our podium. **** Terrie Jo

PROGRAM FOR JUNE - Will be our Chapter Picnic. See Gary's message. Let Terrie Jo know you are coming so we can know amout of meat etc to buy! 816-795-7233

COMPASS ROSE POSTPONED - Due to LXT Airport improvements, the compass rose project has been postponed until Spring/Summer of 2009.

There's been a change to the WINGS program. Participants can go on-line, go to the Wings Pilot Proficiency Program, and select Airman Profile. There is a new block at the bottom that allows entry of Superseded Wings Phase. This is a one-time opportunity to add the Phase of Wings that an airman held in the old Wings program. The options are phase 1 thru 20. Some people were issued certificates for Phases above 20, but 20 was the official highest Phase that could be held so don't enter anything higher than 20.

Once an entry is made, it can't be changed. The Phase entered will appear on the My Wings page in the Superseded Wings Program box. This is just a way of acknowledging the accomplishments of airmen who qualified for Wings in the old program. If the airman allows external review for a 3rd party, the information will be available. Likewise, it provides a record that demonstrates an airman's "positive attitude about safety" which can be helpful in some situations. ** Fred P. Harms, Central Region FAA Safety Team (FAASTeam) **

is now in effect! It is the responsibility of each chapter WINGS Chair to keep track of all their WINGS participants. So -please- keep Chapter Wings Officer, Penrod Turk, informed upon the completion of any phase. (4 West 112th Street, Kansas City, MO 64114-5304) Questions?

CHAPTER FLYOUT INFORMATION - We will be flying to only 3 or 4 close airports in 2008 due to gas prices, and to increase our flying and members' participation.  (Non-flyers welcome!)  With a new chairperson, we hope to provide  e-mail notification the week before.  Please volunteer.  Info on flyouts can be obtained at, or the State News Letter at .
