The October meeting had a different flavor, literally, it was held at Holiday Inn by Worlds of Fun. It also featured two speakers, Charlie Wright and John Ohrazda. Charlie spoke of a project he is working on, the Military Medical Memorial to be built in Kansas City. It will feature a 1 1/2 times size model of Marine corpsmen taking care of wounded under fire. It will honor the doctors, nurses and corpsmen of all wars. There will also be a learning center. A book of anecdotes collected from individuals who were treated by medical personnel has been edited and is for sale. Contributors of $50 or more to the fund may obtain an autographed copy free. Charlie also mentioned a shorter-term project, that of finding a corpsman who treated a Marine in the Korean Conflict. He did locate the individual, but since he was unable to travel to Kansas City, a presentation will be made in Spokane. Donations were also solicited to defray the costs of the trip. John Ohrazda filled out the program with an update on Lee's Summit Airport such as the long term plan to extend Runway 18-36 to 5,500 feet. He cautioned pilots to check NOTAMs for new TFRs, a crane to be installed west of the airport, and to watch out for deer. A recent study noted that aircraft departing Rwy 11 cannot see aircraft on the Rwy 18/36 ends. The traffic pattern has changed to 800 feet AGL. The Airport Protection Act has been stalled in the state legislature. John reminded us we are all ambassadors of the airport, and should fly accordingly as well as talk intelligently about matters affecting the airport.

MO-KAN Wings Contest - Remember - Get ready for next year. All non-pilot members should attend a safety meeting and have a WINGS card signed. These are needed for our interstate rivalry with the Kansas Pilots Association (KPA). The KPA is very serious about this contest and won the trophy (furnished by Ed Duckworth) year before last. All non-pilot members should send their signed wings card to Penrod Turk.

The State Wings Contest runs from April 1st thru March 31st each year. Let's make the WINGS year WINGS Safe. All it takes is one hour of air work, one hour of takeoffs and landings, one hour of instrument and a safety meeting. It is the responsibility of each chapter WINGS Chair to keep track of all their WINGS participants. So please keep Chapter Wings Officer, Penrod Turk, informed upon the completion of any phase. (4 West 112th Street, Kansas City, MO 64114-5304)

MPA Board Meetings - This is a reminder that any member can attend our chapter board meetings. They are held on the first Tuesday of the month, excluding holidays, at Executive Beechcraft, Downtown Airport, at 7:00 P.M. We always welcome your advice and assistance, and the hospitality is great.
