PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE - All You Pilots and Passengers Who Love To Fly, It’s Now Time.
Get yourself, family and friends, oh yes, and an airplane and go out and enjoy this Beautiful
time of the year. The fall colors are just beginning to turn, and this year I believe they will be phenomenal.
With the late summer rains and high moisture content, I think we will see very beautiful landscapes and skylines
for two to three weeks. I have seen for myself some foliage starting to change as I write this message
*** Now the 2006 Missouri Pilots Association Convention.
We’re on track for an excellent, probably the best convention ever, with a very special group of speakers.
Make sure you have your reservations in order at the Hilton Garden Inn @ 19677 East Jackson Drive, Independence,
MO 64057
(816) 795-3781. Even if you live in the Kansas City
Metropolitan Area, take some time and spend it at the Hotel for a night or two. There will be lots of activities
to attend and some very special handouts and door prizes.
*** It’s very close to the Holiday Season, and before we know it, Halloween will have
passed and Thanksgiving will be waiting around the corner. When this letter gets published
it will only be about four weeks away. THEN, it’s time for “Ole” Saint Nick to
be coming down from the North Pole with all of them Reindeer. Yes, another year
is about to pass us by, and before we know it the fields will start to green up again and the warm winds will blow
across them.
*** Speaking of Christmas, our annual dinner is about to come into view of our cockpits.
This year we are planning to go back to one of the Casino’s here in the Kansas City area to enjoy a multitude of
activities, and I might add, quite the variety of food, as we can order off the menu without being stuck to a programmed
meal. This will definitely be more attractive to those of us who prefer a special diet or just eat what we
want. We will publish the meeting place and date for the Christmas dinner as soon as possible
*** Our Theme for the Convention is so very close to completion that I believe in the next Flyer
that we might publish the logo for this theme, and then during the Christmas dinner, we will announce the text
that goes along with this logo. We will then print the completed work in MPA News.
*** The last general meeting at the DAV was represented well, but I would sure like to see more folks show up at
these dinner meetings. They are very informative as well as informal. You don’t need to wear a tie
or dress. Just bring yourself as you are, we welcome you with any attire. Speaking of meetings, in
November we will meet on the 3rd Wednesday instead of the fourth. This is done so that you may enjoy Thanksgiving
with your family and friends. The actual meeting date will be on November 16, 2005 @1800 hours.
Thank you for your time, and I’ll look forward to seeing every one of you at the next local board
or general meeting. Best regards, Marvin Moore
MEETING SUMMARY – Our September 28th meeting was opened with the Pledge of Allegiance led by Denny Moore, our President Marvin Moore’s Air Force retired brother. It was followed by an invocation by Jan Handley. Marvin mentioned a few items covered in his president’s message. The program was a 20-minute portion of a video of Bob Hoover’s classic air show demonstration as seen from both the cockpit and the ground. Most of us have watched his maneuvers one or more times, but as in magic tricks, we still wonder how it is done! The movements are as graceful as the classical music pieces to which they are set. The eight-point rolls and the single-engine flybys following a loop on one engine in his twin-engine Aero Commander are pretty impressive. But, he saves the best for last, a final landing with both props feathered, coasting to a stop right in front of the viewing stands. I think his act should be followed by a disclaimer, “For your safety, this act should not be attempted by rank amateurs!”
