PRESIDENTS MESSAGE - The acting Director of the MO Dept of Rev has assigned a point person who will be our contact person in resolving issues with "use tax". That person is: Diane Luebbering, 573-751-4981, email: Diane.Luebbering@dor.mo.gov. Also, www.moconsumersuetaxprotest. Plead your case stating that 1) you were unaware of the law and no fraud was intended, 2) prior to purchasing your aircraft you contacted DOR (at either the state or local level) and was not advised of the law and 3) you are aware that a member of the MPA has had both penalty and interest removed by contacting his representative - and you really don't want to go that route. Please feel free to contact me personally with any questions or comments and please keep me informed of any outcomes. **** With Fall approaching and lower temperatures flying is at it's very best - plus I'm using less fuel. There are a lot of changes and work going on at various area airports, so please remember to check for NOTAMS. **** Remember - the similarity between air traffic controllers and pilots is - - if a pilot screws up, the pilots dies - - if the ATC screws up, the pilot dies. *** One great piece of news, Mitch Stafford has accepted the office of Vice-President! He will follow a great tradition set by Grandma and Grandpa Stafford, (and his Dad.) Gary Fox

SEPTEMBER SPEAKER SUMMARY - Jeanné Willerth introduced our speaker this evening as a future member of the chapter. Get out the application! Shawn Nault is our newest pilot to get his private license. Congrats, Shawn. He is a graduate of Center High School, Southwest Missouri State University, a third generation pilot, an Air Force Reserve A-10 "Warthog" maintainer, a member of Mitchell Flying Club, and married to Debra with two children. Twenty years ago at 11 years old, he flew to Oshkosh with his Dad. What a thrill, but in August he flew there again in the back seat of a replica of a Japanese Zero, an AT-6 trainer modified by Fox Studios for "Tora, Tora, Tora." Doug Jackson, "Tora 101" owner and air show pilot with 20 years pulling G's in his Gunfighter Routine with a P-51 bought the aircraft years back. It is actually a "Harvard" built in Canada. Shawn sat in the back seat which has a stick and rudders, no instruments, except for a Garmin. While it was an uncomfortable ride, with a parachute and harness, he did enjoy the trip. They flew up Sunday, and back on Wednesday splitting the cost of the fuel. His share, $400. Ouch! The ancient birds get great treatment going in, but Doug had to taxi on grass around an aircraft in takeoff position to get off. Shawn had a chance to fly the bird and log the time. After those words, he had a presentation of great pictures he took of every category on the airport, some in flight. His favorites are the Cessna 195 and the P-51. Editor's note: My only regret is not seeing those great pictures for another second so. Also, I missed flying the T-6 by one class, and was in the first class of T-34s and T-28s. Great program, Shawn! Al St. Germain
