MPA LEGISLATION REPORT
SEPTEMBER 10, 2000

GREETINGS!

This is my Third Report to MPA Members. First information on the National Level.

The First Seven Members of the 18-member FAA Management Advisory Council were sworn in last month. They are as follows: J. Randolph Babbitt, former President of the Air Line Pilots Association; Robert W. Baker, vice-president of AMR Corp.; Edward M. Bolen, President of the General Aviation Manufacturers Association; Geoffrey T. Crowley, President and CEO of Air Wisconsin; Robert A. Davis, former Boeing vice-president; Deborah Branson, private attorney; and Kendall W. Wilson, private financial analyst.

If you're looking for someone to represent the Interests of General Aviation Pilots, like maybe Phil Boyer, President of AOPA, don't hold your breath. It appears that Senator John McClain (R-AZ) has successfully blocked Phil Boyer's Nomination.

Secondly, Here's information on the State Level. House Speaker Gaw recently approved the establishment of a Tall Tower Subcommittee of the House Transportation Committee to investigate legislation, which has been commonly referred to as the Missouri Airport Protection Act (MAPA).

The Subcommittee will hold two Hearings and they are as follows:
1. Wednesday, October 11TH: 2:30 P.M. in the City Hall of Independence, MO. (just east of Kansas City).
2. Wednesday, October 18TH: Noon in Hearing Room # 6 of the State Capital
(In the Basement).

We don't need to fill the room with bodies (that will come latter), but we do need a good representation of Pilots, Airport Managers, City/County Government Officials.

If possible, please try to make one of these meetings to show our Support on behalf of MPA to support this important Legislation.

Now, in Conclusion, Remember we have a Real Battle Ahead of Us, Concerning Missouri Aviation Issues. But Remember, "Let's All Work Together."
"United We Stand, Divided We Fall".

Safe Flying!
