March 2008 Issue # 03
The Pony Express Chapter of the MPA met at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 5, 2008, at the Rosecrans Airport Restaurant. Seventeen members and guests were present.
After dinner, president Kevin Price called the business meeting to order. Jo Wade moved and Jerry Kerns seconded the motion to accept the minutes of the January meeting as published. Motion passed. Ray Kerns gave the treasurers report showing disbursements of $350.90 and income of $105.00 for an ending balance of $5,436.58.
Les Nelson was commended on his efforts in recruiting new members. With the two new members that Les turned in at this meeting, our chapter now has a total of 200 members and is the largest chapter in the State.
Kevin reminded us of Aviation Day which will be February 20. The planes will leave Rosecrans at 11:00 a.m. The cost is $20.00
The AOPA has a new CD on airport security which is available to borrow. They also have stickers available that can be placed on planes and hangers.
Keith Mowry told us about a unique restaurant in Colorado Springs. Ask him about the details. Keith and Marlene also told us about an employment opportunity at Garmin. Their daughter works in the human resource department for Garmin and told them about employment opportunities for technical personnel and aviation sales. Applicants must have a private pilots license and at least 400 hours of flying time.
Kevin introduced our speaker, Mike Hurst, who is the Rosecrans Memorial
Airport Manager.
Mike is retired from the airforce and has been on the job since February 1. He has set
both some short term and some long term goals as the airport manager. The short term goals
include preparing for the FAA inspection in April; meeting the people around the airport;
learning the status of current grants and taxes; getting the self-fueler operational;
addressing safety issues; and dealing with expiring contracts. His long term goals include
on-going safety issues; customer satisfaction; and holding events at the airport
The meeting was adjourned at 8:00 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Kay Cameron, secretary
