May 2008 Issue # 05

The Pony Express Chapter of the MPA met at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 1, 2008, at the Rosecrans Airport Restaurant. Twenty-eight members and guests were present.

After dinner, president Kevin Price called the business meeting to order. Jerry Kerns moved and Jerry Acord seconded the motion to accept the minutes as published. Motion passed. Ray Kerns gave the treasurer’s report showing disbursements totaling $23.00 for an ending balance of $5,267.37.

Billy Ray announced that Pony Express Chapter won the 3rd quarter membership challenge.

Mike Hurst, airport manager, spoke to the group about a new airport policy limiting access to vehicles on the AOA ramp and area around the hangers. Parking inside the hanger is permitted. Those people who are given an access code to drive through the gate must watch a safety CD. Driving a vehicle to the hanger area will be permitted under extraordinary circumstances. Issues were raised about the speed of vehicles using the gravel service road in front by the hangers. Mike said that the proposal for self-fueling has gone to the City Council.

Kevin introduced our speaker David Plum, a member of the Civil Air Patrol. David is assigned to the North Central Region, and his duties include working with the Civil Air Patrol Academy for cadets held each summer in Nebraska. The Academy is a two week program that includes ground school and up to 10 hours of flying time. Cadets may be ready to solo at the end of the Academy. The Civil Air Patrol has two levels of members. Cadet Members are from age 12 to 21. Senior members are the second level. The Civil Air Patrol has 3 purposes: aerospace education; emergency services; and leadership development.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:15 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Kay Cameron, secretary
