The Pony Express Chapter of the MPA met on Tuesday, April 7, 2009, at 6:30 p.m. at the Rosecrans Airport Café. Twenty-seven members and guests were present.

After dinner, President Bill Bird called the business meeting to order. Neil Miller and Troy Wright were introduced as guests. Les Nelson moved and Kevin Price seconded the motion to accept the minutes as published. The motion passed. Kay Cameron gave the treasurer’s report for Ray Kerns. The current balance is $5,040.82.

Chet Edwards reported that he is turning the Wings Program chairman position over to Ed Tomlinson. Ed’s contact numbers are 279-7118 (home) and 390-7334 (cell). Chet has served as the chairman of the Wings Program for a number of years. The Chapter sincerely appreciates Chet’s service.

Ron Wade read the list of potential deletions from our membership rolls and reminded us to continue to urge members to renew and to attend the Chapter meetings.

Missouri Aviation Day was held April 1 in Jefferson City. Six of our Chapter members attended. Shown here from left to right are Ron Wade, Jerry Kerns, Peggy Ray, Billy Ray, and Les Nelson. Also in attendance but not shown in the picture was Mike Hurst.

 

 

 

 

The MPA State Convention will be held May 8-10 in Branson. It is being held in conjunction with the opening of the Branson Airport. There are exciting air shows planned for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Check the MPA website or the MPA newsletter for more information.

The following event dates were announced:

May 23: Atchison EAA

June 6: Red Oak

June 26-28: Gardner, KS, vintage plane show

August 22-23: KC air show

The Boy Scout camporee is scheduled for September 26 and 27. The event is being coordinated by the Air National Guard, the Boy Scouts, the XP Sky Riders chapter of the EAA, and the Pony Express chapter of the MPA. The events will include Young Eagle flights, pancake breakfast, and classes. Lots of volunteers will be needed at the time of this event. Ron Wade, Billy Ray, and Jim Pelkie volunteered to coordinate for the Chapter with the other organizations in the planning of the event.

Mike Ordnung was the speaker for the evening. He showed pictures and talked about his experiences building a Pietenpol aircraft.
