Our speaker will be Joe Dobronski, retired McDonnell Douglas test pilot. Joe was our speaker a number of years ago when he talked about his long distance glider flights. This time he will talk about "From Props to Jets". We will get to hear his exciting story about the challenges, tragedies and successes which resulted in the development of McDonnell's famous line of fighters. He will relate his experiences with these fighters as well as the unsuccessful but just as interesting company-funded prototypes.

Joe published his autobiography in a book "A Sky Full of Challenges", which is a must read if you want to learn more about Joe and his experiences flying a variety of aircraft, especially for McDonnell Douglas. Unfortunately, the book, which went through about four printings, is now out of print and not available. BUT we have one copy available for our 50/50. So, if you want to own the book, be sure to buy a lot of 50/50 tickets!

Our private room opens up at 1800 with Dinner ($18/person) being served at 1900. Our guest speaker's presentation will be around 2000. We will meet at the Sunset Lakes Banquet Center 13366 W. Watson Road in Sappington, MO 63127.

August 16th

The August Flyout will be to Casey, IL (1H8) Casey Muni on Sunday August 16th. We plan to meet at the Casey airport at noon and catch up with the Gateway Chapter MPA group at Richard's Farmhouse. While flying, monitor 122.85 and call for the Lunch Bunch, which is what they call themselves. Please let Sue Smith know if you can join the group at 636-274-3663 or email her.

Sales/Use Tax Issues

The Missouri Pilots Association has formed a special committee to investigate and develop a plan of action regarding Department of Revenue Letters demanding use tax or sales taxes. A number of our members have received these letters demanding the taxes as well as penalties and interest on aircraft that they purchased dating back several years. This special committee includes Carolyn Morris, Bill Cheek, Rick Barnes and Jonathan Rimington. The report of the state board discussion & action can be found on Pages 15-17 in the July MPA state newsletter.
