99 Years of Women in Aviation 1910 - 2009:
The Pioneers, The Golden Age of Air Racing, WASPS,
Movement into Airlines, Military,
and finally The Space Program

This presentation will focus on the pioneers, those women in the United States and abroad who began flying in the 1910s (or in a few cases before). The Golden age of air racing and record setting before WWII will then be discussed. The Women's Air Derby of 1929, the founding of the Ninety-Nines, and notable pilots like Louise Thaden, Elinor Smith, Amelia Earhart, Bobbi Trout, Beryl MarkHam, and Jackie Cochran. Then the women aviators of WWII will be explored - the WASPS and its predecessors. Then the effect of the women's movement of the 1970s that allowed women to move into all aspects of aviation from the airlines to military combat to the space program.

New/Different 50-50 Format

Starting in January we launched a different 50-50 drawing to add even more interest to our meetings! Half of the money collected from the purchase of 50-50 tickets will be awarded to the person who draws the joker from a deck of cards. If no one draws the joker at this meeting the money will be held over until the next meeting. The 50-50 pot continues to grow until someone picks the joker! Come to the meeting & learn more! and try your luck!

Sunday, February 7th

Join us for the February Fly out to Hermann, MO (63M). We'll meet at the Hermann Airport at 11:00AM and make our way to the Wings A Blazin restaurant.

Wings A Blazin is the place to go for Hot Wings in Hermann! The place is owned by a professional pilot, so it has an airplane theme and real aircraft parts (doors, seats, side panels, etc.) hanging on the walls. Wings A Blazin is a bar and grill, so it's got a fun and relaxing atmosphere. It's decorated in vibrant colors and it has sort of a beachy feel to it as well. The food is excellent! They've got several different sauce flavors to choose from, then you can pick from five levels of spiciness depending on how hot you want your Wings. Other chicken favorites are Chicken Lips (boneless wings) and Chicken Tenders. They've also got chicken wraps, burgers, pasta, salads and several side dishes to choose from. Sound good? Join US!

Please let Sue Smith know if you are planning on going. She needs to make arrangements for transportation from the airport to the restaurant.
