Our November speaker will
be Lewis J Lynch, MAJ, USAF (RET). MAJ Lynch enlisted in military service as an Aviation Cadet, US Army Corps,
in December 1942.
He completed Pilot Training at Tuskegee Army Air Field in Alabama. In December 1944 he was assigned to the now famous 332nd Fighter Group based at Ramitelli Italy. Prior to the 332nd's arrival the Army Air Corp was suffering severe bomber losses. After their arrival not a single bomber was shot down by enemy fighters! He flew 42 combat missions in a P-51 Mustang before being reassigned to Tuskegee Army Air Field towards the end of 1945.
He left the service in 1947 but was recalled to active duty in 1948 to serve with his old unit, which was still segregated. Upon integration of the Armed Services in 1949 he was assigned to Williams AFB in Arizona where he served as a jet flight instructor. Before he retired from active duty in 1964, after 22 years of service, he also served as Flight Commander and Squadron Operations Officer in California, Alaska and Indiana. In Alaska he flew right wing in an F-86 Sabre Jet with the "Arctic Gladiators", a pre-Thunderbirds Aerial Demonstration Team. In addition to various training aircraft he has flown the P-40 Warhawk, P-51 Mustang, P-47 Thunderbolt, F-80 Shooting Star, F-86 Sabre and F-100 Super Sabre.
We are delighted to have such a distinguished guest as our speaker. Won't you join us?
